Former motel converted to apartments

The former motel on the southern edge of the Mora city limits is in the midst of a major renovation as it is converted into 26 or more rental units ready for occupancy starting in February. The property was purchased by JCF Properties LLC, owned by John Fuhr, in July for $150,000 for the purpose of converting the motel into studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. Construction wraps on Midwest's largest solar facility in North Branch

Shovel-ready sites available in North Branch

Interstate Business Park in North Branch has been certified for the Shovel Ready Program by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). The 250-acre site is located about 40 miles north of St. Paul, just off Interstate 35 at 400th Street and Fletcher Avenue. Success has been sweet. The Petersons ventured into the wine business two decades ago to secure the family farm. During the Feb. 2 City Council meeting, Wimmer explained the city won the award for its recruitment of SnoBear USA to the city from North Dakota. Solar power boom in Chisago County creates winners and losers

Solar power is reshaping the landscape in Chisago County north of the Twin Cities. In a change that has surprised and angered some residents, eight major solar power projects, including Minnesota’s largest, are proposed to be built here next year on more than 1,000 acres of land now mostly used to grow corn and soybeans. It puts Chisago County, population 54,000, at the epicenter of a solar boom fueled partly by state renewable energy policies. Pine City's MINPACK makes plantable pencils that grow into vegetables

Denmark-based Sprout World wants to shrink the waste of some 15 billion pencil stubs that get thrown away annually. The startup makes plantable pencils that grow into vegetables, herbs or flowering plants once you're done using them.  The pencils are made from cedar in Pine City, Minn., and are the perfect sustainable product because one dying product is literally giving life to a new product.  For more of the story click here.

During the Isanti City Council meeting July 7, the council approved a subsidy for SnoBear or the developer for the project, or both, that will relocate the existing company from Fargo, North Dakota, to Isanti. SnoBear is a winter social recreational vehicle for the ice. The design allows for ice fishing in a T-shirt at 40 degrees below zero in total comfort, according to the SnoBear website. Bureau of Labor reports job growth in all five GPS 45:93 Counties

Polaris launches Slingshot three-wheeler and new business unit

Polaris Industries Inc. unveiled a three-wheel motorcycle Monday that is so aesthetically slick that Batman just might buy it.  The exotic Slingshot was unleashed before 5,000 dealers at the company’s annual product show at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The low-riding two-seater boasts 173 horsepower, up to 20-inch tires and will cost between $19,999 and $23,999.

The Slingshot was engineered in Polaris’ R&D center in Wyoming, Minn., and was a four-year project. Mike Jonikas, the vice president in charge of Slingshot, said the roadster is “designed to deliver head-turning exhilaration.”  To read more of the story click here.

Nelson Global Products Inc., a global leader in the design and manufacture of tubular and exhaust products for commercial vehicle markets, has acquired Water Works Manufacturing in Cambridge. Water Works also has two subsidiaries; Cambridge Metals and Plastics (CMP), located in Cambridge and Interlaken Technology Corporation (ITC), located in Chaska. Waterworks Manufacturing expansion project approved

Cambridge city staff began working with Waterworks Manufacturing a year and a half ago on an expansion project, and the work has finally paid off.  Economic Development Director Stan Gustafson explained at the Cambridge City Council meeting Oct. 15 that staff has been working with Waterworks Manufacturing to build a 33,745 square foot addition to their building at 500 Cleveland St. So., which is currently 110,000 square feet. With this addition, Waterworks plans to retain 153 jobs and create 15 new jobs paying $12.19 per hour including benefits.  To review more of the story, click here.

CMC to build new $10 million emergency room

Cambridge Medical Center’s emergency room was built to accommodate 8,400 patients a year. That number was surpassed over 10 years ago, and currently the ER serves more than 14,500 patients annually. On Wednesday, Sept. 14, Cambridge Medical Center broke ground for a new $10 million emergency room expansion and chemotherapy remodel.
